The Hansen-Protasi Group is a jazz sextet comprised of four horns, bass, drums, and occasional vocals. They bring fresh, inspired takes to jazz standards, while keeping classic energy that people will be familiar with. The concept of the group was inspired by such albums as You and Lee from Lee Konitz, and Birth of the Cool from Miles Davis. The nuanced writing on such albums compelled Nathan Hansen and Francesco Protasi to create an ensemble as a means for enhancing their composition/arranging and exercising their prolificacy. The result does not disappoint. The music is exciting and sensitively played by the band, offering a delicious and complex treat for the public.
