The Legendary Kennett Flash Open Mic hosted by Vassal is open to all performers and audiences! Professionals and amateurs alike will share the stage. We’re calling for all singers, musicians, songwriters, poets, comedians, jugglers, magicians, dancers, and more! Open Mic is a great opportunity for established and novice performers to practice and share their talents. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for audiences to experience a special evening of local talent. – 6pm doors and signup | 7pm show- $5 admission | $5 BYOB- all ages- level 2 and 3 Kennett Flash members get in for FREE – please call to reserve seats and have your membership card ready.- admission tickets are sold at the door only. Audience capacity is 100. First come, first served. Sara Chodak is Vassal. She is a 20 year old Philadelphia-based songwriter who is driven by emotion and the world around her. She is an eclectic mix of grungy punk, traditional folk, and rebellious rock. She ties her music together with just an acoustic guitar and raw lyrics. The stories woven throughout her songs derive from inspiration from the people she sees, the places she’s been, and the all of the unembellished emotions she has felt. This original project weaves together storytelling songs with the visual arts creating an imaginative musical performance woven into a unique visual experience. This show is the result of a four-year collaborative effort between Brown and an Indonesian artist named Sapri. Despite living across the globe and relying on Google Translate to communicate pages of detailed notes, Sapri created more than 200 vibrant drawings that help portray Brown’s storytelling songs. Bringing these giant comics to the stage, Brown takes the listener inside the lives of fourteen unique characters while strumming his guitar and singing beside a projected graphic story, revealing the idea that all people, strangers alike, have a story we can learn from. Throw in Dale’s one-of-a-kind Hammond organ style and punch the rhythm piano along with his “it’s never the same twice” delivery and everything takes on a unique twist. On drums and upright bass are two of the region’s finest musicians Jonathan W. Whitney and Sam Nobles respectively who are on every nuance of this spontaneous musical journey. Along with several original compositions Dale’s forte is his ability to foster unique interpretations of songs he has invested his heart and soul in as he stretches out on vintage keyboards including Hammond organ, Rhodes piano, Wurli, DX7 and grand piano.
