There’s no artifice, no histrionics — just honest, authentic, emotionally resonant singing in the tradition of the roots music that shaped her. On Circumstance, her second and latest album (due out April 2023), the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter guitarist displays her vocal prowess and introspective writing in abundance, mining both her heart and her musical tastes for a deep, personal journey across an Americana soundscape dotted with blues, folk, country, soul and rock. Recorded in two sessions at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where Etta James and Wilson Pickett once shook the walls, the record channels their spirits with 11 stirring tracks that pull no punches diving into the vagaries of the heart and her own personal journey. As an old soul inside a 30-something millennial, Alice puts her stamp on Americana’s venerable strands with 10 standout originals evoking both the classic singer-songwriters and the seminal music that once filled airwaves, roadhouses and juke joints. Circumstance was produced by Alice’s creative collaborator Freebo; the two have worked together in the studio and on stage since 2017. Freebo weaves his unique fretless bass stylings into Alice’s superb vocals for a presentation with undeniable chemistry. Freebo is best known for his decade of touring and recording with Bonnie Raitt, and has distinguished himself as one of the great bassists of our time, playing on records with CSN, Maria Muldaur, John Mayall, Ringo Starr, Dr. John, and Neil Young as well as appearing on Saturday Night Live, The Midnight Special, The Muppet Show, and in concert with the legendary Spinal Tap. Not willing to simply rest on those achievements, Freebo delved more deeply into his creativity and has become a highly regarded singer/songwriter, now working on his 6th full-length solo CD. A multi award winner and finalist in numerous songwriting contests, Freebo’s music reflects his compassionate concern for the world and people around him, and his lyrics and open stage banter have helped him connect with listeners worldwide. He has been the guitarist of choice with the iconic band Steely Dan for both recording and touring since 1999. With the launch of “(quiet) holiday,” Jon now has seven solo releases in his discography. A previous release, “Time On My Hands,” was nominated for Vintage Guitar Hall Of Fame Album of the Year. His guitar work with Steely Dan can be heard on their recordings “Everything Must Go” and “Two Against Nature” (both the CD and the live DVD) and on the Steely Dan VH1 Storytellers and “Making of Aja” DVD releases. Jon is also featured as lead guitarist on the Dukes of September Rhythm Revue’s “Live at Lincoln Center” DVD. Jon tours regularly with unique song stylist Madeleine Peyroux and has previously toured with Donald Fagen; Boz Scaggs; The Dukes of September (a supergroup featuring Donald Fagen, Boz Scaggs, and Michael McDonald); Bette Midler; Phoebe Snow; and Bobby Caldwell. _____________________________________________________________________ DENNIS ESPANTMAN is a seasoned professional bass guitarist with a resume that spans many years. He had his first brush with international stardom some time ago working for the Danish superstar Kim Larsen and touring Europe as the opening act for the Rolling Stones. Returning to the US, he continued to play bass and to write music. He has played with musical luminaries such as Chuck Berry, Darlene Love, Ronnie Spector, Al Cooper, Eddie Brigati, The Jon Herington Band, Jimmy Vivino, and Paul Shaffer. Our performances mingle these with originals written by three of our band mates. NORTH TOWN: North Town is an original band founded by former members of Cardinal Suns and Second Nature. They are based in Claymont, Delaware, near the northern border of the state. North Town’s original sound is an eclectic blend of Rock, Alternative, and Country with catchy hooks and insightful lyrics. Jill Sobule
The Kennett Flash is proud to present JILL SOBULEJill Sobule’s work is at once deeply personal and socially conscious, seriously funny and derisively tragic. In a dozen albums spanning three decades of recording, the Denver-born songwriter/guitarist/singer has tackled such topics as the death penalty, anorexia nervosa, shoplifting, reproduction, the French Resistance, adolescent malaise, LGBTQ issues, and the Christian Right. Her hits include “I Kissed A Girl”—the first openly gay-themed song ever to crack the Billboard Top 20—and the alt-rock anthem “Supermodel” featured in the film “Clueless”. Sobule was one half of The Jill & Julia Show, providing music while actor Julia Sweeney contributes storytelling. Jill is considered a pioneer in crowdfunding and is constantly exploring and creating new models for artists in an ever-changing music industry. Her latest record is “Nostalgia Kills”, produced by Ben Lee and released on her own Pinko Records label. Jill’s theater credits include a musical adaptation of the Broadway classic “Yentl”, “Prozak and the Platypus”, and “Times Square”. Her latest, “F*ck 7th Grade”, was postponed due to Covid, but was performed and filmed for three days at a make-shift drive-in over the Summer. He started playing the clarinet at the age of 9 years old and later transitioned to the alto saxophone. Anthony studied music at Columbia Community College, Columbia Maryland and studied with the most influential saxophone instructors in the Baltimore and Washington DC areas. He composes, arranges and is the executive producer of his original music. Anthony’s original music infuses the rhythms of Blues, R&B, Pop, and Jazz elements. He started his musical career performing in the late 1990’s at open mic jazz clubs and playing as a sideman saxophonist with various jazz and blues band in the Washington DC area and Los Angeles, California.
