Dennis Schocket’s voice (guitars and lead vocals) is directly influenced by Jeff Lynne. Gregg Simmons (lead guitar and lead vocals) is known for his great fret work but it’s his incredible falsetto that gets him noticed here. Veteran keyboardist, John Kelly (keys, guitar and vocals) takes on the multiple roles of piano and strings with effortless grace and skill. Violinist Greta Thomas brings her classically trained excellence to every song. Multi instrumentalist Bronson Wagner (bass, keys and lead vocals) has the difficult task of reproducing that epic ELO bass rumble, but does so with a style and flair that would make Kelly Groucutt smile. Experience the spellbinding artistry of Hiroya Tsukamoto, a Japanese-born master of fingerstyle guitar and evocative storytelling, as he returns to the Kennett Flash to perform songs from his newest album, Rainshadow. On this latest project, Tsukamoto uses his composing and songwriting talents to hone in on crafting compelling, memorable, and singable melodies. He writes, “Through this record, I hope you will find some melodies that resonate with you and that you end up humming in your daily life.” Recognized for his dizzyingly agile fingerpicking and his soulful performances, Tsukamoto invites audiences into his world of musical exploration and emotional expression. Come witness a performer who has been celebrated for his “delicate, fluid, and beautifully detailed” style (Acoustic Guitar magazine), and for his ability to take listeners on an “impressionistic journey” (Boston Herald). Tsukamoto, an alumnus of Berklee College of Music, has been recognized for his talents on stages such as Blue Note in New York City, Japanese National Television (NHK), International Storytelling Center, and United Nations. He scored second place at the International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in 2018 and 2022. ———- WORKSHOP: Internationally acclaimed fingerstyle guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto will lead an intimate, informal masterclass for players of all levels of ability and accomplishment. Hiroya will demonstrate fingerstyle techniques, including chords and basic theory, breaking down elements such as tone and rhythm, explaining how to apply them to a practice routine. Wisdom on scales, tunings, improvisation, and more to help players improve and expand their talents will be presented with kindness and patience and easy laughter by one of the best fingerstyle players in the world. Questions will be warmly received. This workshop is limited to ten participants.
