An Evening With RICHARD SHINDELL [SOLD OUT]

etix An 450091721410061

The Kennett Flash is proud to present An Evening with RICHARD SHINDELL! Friday, September 27, 20248pm show | 7pm doors$35 advance | $40 day-of-show$5 BYOB at the door all ages show! Richard Shindell lives as both an immigrant and emigrant, crossing thresholds, that informs his illumination of the human experience through narrative song. Shindell has inhabited a Zen Buddhist monastery and busked in the streets of Paris. Originally from New York, now living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Shindell is a writer whose songs paint pictures, tell stories, juxtapose ideas and images, inhabit characters, vividly evoking entire worlds along the way and expanding our sense of just what it is a song may be. Meticulously recorded over three years in New York and Buenos Aires, his most recent release, Careless, offered an ambitious, luxurious, full- length statement. Shindell immersed himself in the studio, allowing the time and latitude to explore, experiment, take risks—to play—as each of these eleven songs was given form and substance. While his signature acoustic guitar style is used to good effect, Careless also found Shindell plugging in more. “The wider sonic and dynamic range of the electric has been a real inspiration. Rejuvenating.” ———————————————- An online processing fee of $5.00 per ticket will appear on your order at check out. This is NOT your BYOB fee. They bring fresh, inspired takes to jazz standards, while keeping classic energy that people will be familiar with. The concept of the group was inspired by such albums as You and Lee from Lee Konitz, and Birth of the Cool from Miles Davis. The nuanced writing on such albums compelled Nathan Hansen and Francesco Protasi to create an ensemble as a means for enhancing their composition/arranging and exercising their prolificacy. The result does not disappoint. The music is exciting and sensitively played by the band, offering a delicious and complex treat for the public.   ———————————————- An online processing fee of $5.00 per ticket will appear on your order at check out. The Kennett Flash is proud to present THE GEORGE CROTTY TRIO   Saturday, June 14, 20258pm show | 7pm doors$20 all tickets | $5 BYOBall ages Known for their expressive fluidity and modal orientation, The George Crotty Trio makes music that is cinematic, collaborative, and conversational. They draw on influences within Indian raga, Arabic maqam, and modal jazz; using the language of other cultures to speak new things. “I’m not at home in any one culture,” muses Crotty, “so the trio became my home.”  George Crotty has forged his own unique vocabulary on the cello. A member of the Brooklyn Raga Massive, and Detroit-based National Arab Orchestra, he has also worked with esteemed musicians such as Bob Ezrin, Adam Rudolph, Simon Shaheen, and Paquito D’Rivera. Crotty has performed as a soloist and bandleader in North America and Europe including at the Vancouver Jazz Festival, Markham Jazz Festival, Small World Music Festival, Copenhagen Vinterjazz Festival, and New Directions Cello Festival.  Powered by a dynamic rhythm section of bass and percussion, the George Crotty Trio’s sound deviates from a trio’s typical hierarchy. The three players intertwine on their own spontaneous terms in an exploration of groove and colour, lending Crotty’s tunes an exciting three-dimensional quality. Canadian band: Jonathan Chapman (bass), Matias Recharte (percussion).               American band: John Murchison (bass), Jeremy Smith (percussion). “Transcends the trio format.” – The WholeNote“A stream of genre-blurring invention.” – All About Jazz“Sounds like the cosmopolitan centre Toronto is.” – Canadian Music Centre www.georegcrotty.com/trio www.facebook.com/georgecrottycello www.instagram.com/georgecrottycello ———————————————- An online processing fee of $5.00 per ticket will appear on your order at check out.
